different kinds of water

It was very cool to find a little hot springs. We got to go in it for free. When we got to the hot springs I was surprised how warm it was. There was a little waterfall in the spring so it was flowing water. I found some volcanic mud that was the same mud from the spa. My mom and dad put the mud all over their bodies. It was very funny.
We went to a beach. It was very sandy, on one side was the ocean and the other side was a mountain. When we were there we found lots of sea shells. We even found one with an animal still inside. We also saw what we thought were dead baby sharks. But they are called rigs and are not babies. We also saw orange rubbery things that were dead washed up coral.

It is cool to walk to the ocean with my dad. He knows everything.
I found a little hut made out of drift wood. It was a cool little house.

Now we are on the South island. We flew over last night. We will drive around for the next few days seeing lots of cool stuff.

Rotorua, New Zealand

April 16, 2010

We went to see a hot springs. It was soooooo cool. But the air was filled with sulfer smell. Sulfer smells like diarrea and eggs. Yuck!

We also went zorbing. Zorbing is when you go into a big double plastic ball filled with water or you can be strapped in. They roll you down a big hill. It was so fun.

We also went to see a gyser. It we went up for at least 20 minutes. The water spewed up from the ground for like 20 feet or so. We also walked around a big park that had different coloured pools of water. They were filled with different minerals and sulfer and stuff. It was really stinky.

Today we so a museum it was so cool. We saw a short movie to. In the movie there were moving chairs it was so scary. The movie was about a earthquake and whenever the earthquake erupted the chairs we were sitting on shook and bounced.

Today we went to a spa. It was very fun. We went For a mud bath then we went into a mineral bath. We went by our selves because my dad and Colton went hunting. It was very cool to be in a spa with my mom. The mud is volcanic mud and it cam from a volcano. It felt very smooth /soft on my skin. I thought the bath was going to be big but it was quit small. the mineral pool was bigger then the mud pool. The water in the mineral pools was mercky from the minerals and sulfer.

Auckland, New Zealand

April 13, 2010

We have been in N.Z. for 3 days now. We crossed over the international date line and now we are a day ahead of everyone in Altona!!

It has not been very warm here. It is the same as back home. About 20 degrees in the afternoon and 10 degrees in the morning. We are in Auckland city right now and we are leaving to a town called Rotorua tomorrow afternoon. They have thermal hot springs there. So far we have only been in the city and so we have not seen any animals or gone swimming. But it is to cold to swim because it is fall here. Soon it will be winter but they don’t get snow in Auckland like in Altona. The trees stay green. I don’t think there are any snakes in N.Z. so we don’t have to worry. Today when we went for a walk there was a mouse that almost ran up my moms leg while we where on the sidewalk. She screamed. It was funny.

We went for a long walk to see a vineyard. They had just finished picking all the grapes to make wine. We got to go through the rows of vines and pick all of the leftover grapes from on the bushes. They were so good. My stomic hurt because I ate so many. My hands where all sticky.

We are staying with a family in Auckland who have 3 boys. They are really fun. They have 2 cats and 2 rabbits. They also have a girl who boards with them. She is fun.

It might take me a while to write again because we are going to be leaving here and we don’t know when we will have internet again. I miss you all and all my friends. But I am not ready to come home yet.

leaving Hawaii

We are on our way to New Zealand right now. We had a good time in Hawaii. We saw the bonzia pipe line on the North Coast of Oahu. It is a beach with big big waves. We also went to a Dole pineapple plantation. It was very cool. We learned how pineapples are grown. They are not grown on a vine. They grow above ground on a prickly cactus looking bush. We also saw a soap factory and got a free sample of home made soap. We lastly went to Pearl Harbour. But it was closed just as we got there.

I want to let you know how a lava tube is formed. The lava flows down hill. As the lava flows down the outside surface cools off and keeps flowing inside. Once the lava stops flowing the inside hollows out leaving a tube you can walk through. I was worried the lava might start again. But it didn’t.

I also wanted to tell you that we didn't touch the turtle. That would not be good for them if everyone touched them all the time.

The green sand is from the minerals in the cliff that was getting washed out of the cliff from the crashing waves. My dad thinks it might be serpentine.

I am excited to be going to New Zealand today. But I’m kinda scared for the long 9 hour flight. At least there will be a T.V. on the plane to watch movies on. We have to be on the plane all night. We will be staying with a lady named Suzie. She has 3 kids my age. It will be very fun. I don’t really know what to expect in New Zealand.

We went to a Hawaiian Luau and I learnt how to hula. We ate roast pig and tried Poi.It does not taste good. It is made from mashing a taro root.

I miss everyone back home.
